White Mountain Country Club is a private member-owned club located just south of Show Low in Pinetop, Arizona.  Founded in 1954, the club strives to provide a family atmosphere and an active program for youth members.

The club and golf course operates on a seasonal basis from May through October.  It features a lush 18-hole course that stretches out over 6500 yards.  The spectacular scenery surrounding the course includes rolling hills, Ponderosa pine forest and rugged outcroppings of volcanic rock.

The Show Low Farmers Market and Art Fair will be adding some excitement to the streets of Show Low every Saturday from May 15 to October 16. More than 60 booths will be offering a wide variety of locally produced food and craft items. Live entertainment makes this a fun event for the entire family.

The Show Low Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its annual Chocolate Auction & Mixer on Feb. 5, 2010 at the Torreon Golf Course Clubhouse. $15 per person buys an evening of appetizers, desserts a no-host bar and both live and silent auctions. This has been a popular event in the past and 2010 promises to be no exception.

In addition to Show Low, the White Mountains area of Arizona includes the communities of Snowflake, Pinetop-Lakeside, Springerville, Eagar, St. Johns, Taylor and Heber-Overgaard. A wealth of winter recreational opportunities are available in the Arizona White Mountains, including skiing, snowboarding, sledding and tubing. For history buffs, there is the Trail of Many Tracks historic driving trail. In Springerville, the Casa Malpais Ruins date back to the 13th century and are considered to be one of the finest archaeological sites in the Southwest. It’s the season for skiing in the White Mountains near Show Low. Sunrise Park Resort is the premier ski resort in the area, located 35 miles from Show Low and close to the New Mexico border. Sunrise Park Resort is a year round vacation destination that becomes a snowy wonderland in winter. Operated by the White Mountain Apache Tribe, the resort is built near 3 mountains and features 65 ski runs. Skiers of all levels will find excitement on the slopes of Sunrise Park Resort and the Hon-Dah Resort Casino is close by for off-the-slopes entertainment.

On Saturday, Nov. 7, the Christmas tree that will adorn the nation’s Capitol will be cut from the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest near Alpine, Arizona. The location of this year’s 85-foot blue spruce will remain a well-kept secret until Saturday at 9:30 a.m., when the Apache Crown Dancers will celebrate the felling of the tree. The tree will be harnessed for transport and begin a 10-day trip through Arizona, stopping in Show Low on Tuesday, Nov. 10. There will be festivities throughout Show Low to honor of the tree. Each year, the Capitol Christmas tree is brought to Washington, D.C. from a different state. 2009 is the first year that the Capitol tree will originate in Arizona. The tree will arrive in the Capitol in early December and be erected in front of the Capitol building.

Lake of the Woods is a family-run resort that features over two dozen individual cabins situated around a picturesque private lake. Many of the cabins date back to the 1930s, though there are also some new cabins available. Fishing is available at Lake of the Woods, with the 12-acre lake is stocked several times in the spring and fall with rainbow trout and row boat rentals available. The resort is in Lakeside, Arizona, just a few miles from Show Low. Winter sports are also available in the nearby White Mountains. If you’re looking for a rustic alternative to the usual motels, try renting a cabin at the Lake of the Woods Resort.

Snowflake, Arizona is located just a few miles from Show Low. It has an affordable 17-hole municipal golf course adjacent to the Snowflake LDS Temple. The Snowflake Community Golf Course features 2 courses, a driving range, putting green and cart rentals. Resident Golf Pro Steve Schneider provides individual and group lessons, and a pro shop and snack bar are also located at the course. Year-round programs and tournaments make Snowflake Community Golf Course a focal point of the town of Snowflake and surrounding area.

Show Low is a great place to visit throughout the year. There are year-round recreation activities to be found, along with many points of interest to visit. Just outside of Show Low is the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest, which offers relief from the heat in summer and a snow-covered paradise in winter. Spectacular vistas can be view from the Mogollon Rim. Fishing, camping and hiking are available in the summer, and there are opportunities for skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and ice fishing in the winter.
